How to use the tram and bus
Getting on the tram
Please get on at the door at the middle
- Please get on at the door at the middle and get off at the front door. You pay as you exit
- When paying by cash, please prepare small change to save the trouble of asking for change in the car.
- If you do not have small change, you can use the change machine near the driver’s seat. Please be aware that the machine can change 1,000 yen, 500 yen, 100 yen, 50 yen, but not 10,000 yen and 5,000 yen notes during the vehicle stop.
- Fares are 170 yen for adults and 80 yen for children under elementary school age.

Using Cash or a One-day Pass |
- Please pass your Rapica IC Card over the Card Reader near the door.
- Rapica will still work when carried in a wallet or case.
- Please swipe it while the door is still open.
- You do not need to take a ticket. A beep will sound if your card has been read successfully.
- The Card Reader will display: “Expiration date” (only for Rapica Commuter Passes), “Card balance”, “Ticket number at boarding,” and “Validity light.”
- The reader will indicate an error if you passed your card across too fast, so please pass your card across again;
or if you had already tagged on—in which case the reader will announce this.Only once the door has closed will you be able to check your balance (a beep will sound).

Be seated promptly
- Please be seated promptly before the tram starts moving. When there are no seats available, please hold on to a grasping rod or a strap.
- Please exchange money or move to a different seat while the car is not moving.
If you have any trouble or questions, please feel free to ask the driver during the vehicle stop.

Getting off the tram
Press the button
- When your stop is announced, please press the nearest button on the side of the windows.
- When you press the button, the buttons and the display behind the driver’s seat show the following message: “We will stop at the next stop.” There will also be an announcement.
- Please do not move until the vehicle has made a complete stop.
Using the Rapica IC Card or the Rapica Commuter Pass |
Using cash or a One-day Pass |
- Pass your Rapica IC Card over the Card Reader near the door.
- Rapica will still work even when held in a wallet or case.
- A beep will sound once the fare has been deducted from your card successfully.
- The Card Reader will display: “Fare,” “Remaining balance,” “Expiration date (only for Rapica Commuter Passes),” “Number of adult and child passengers,” “Ticket number at alighting,” and “Validity light.”
- The reader will beep successively to indicate an error if:
- You passed your card across too fast,
so please pass your card across again.
- You did not tag on.
The reader will announce this, and the driver will adjust the reader accordingly. Once he has done so, pass your card over again.
- You have insufficient funds on the card,
in which case the reader will announce this, and you will have to pay the outstanding amount in cash or ticket coupons.
- The reader will beep successively if you had already tagged off. The reader will announce this.

- Please clearly show the amount to the driver before placing the fare in the box next to the driver’s seat.
- Please clearly show your One-day pass or Summer Holiday Challenge Pass to the driver.

Watch your step when exiting
- The steps may be slippery in bad weather conditions. Please also make sure there are no obstacles on the ground before leaving.
- After exiting, please be aware of the surroundings to ensure your safety.

- Refer to the panel diagonally above the driver’s seat to match the fare price. You pay as you exit.
